My mate seemingly completed it on expert in about a week. But then again, he is 500% metal, and has a natural affinity for any game ever created.

But then again, he is 500% metal, and has a natural affinity for any game ever created. I hate people like that! My housemate in Sheffield kicked my ass on every game I bought (Except for Tony Hawk's, the competition amongst the whole house was so fierce we all practiced religiously for daily competitions - I reigned supreme in the end - woot). God, if I ever have to play Monkey Ball bowling with him again I might sob an ocean.

It's a cliche, I know, but there is some good reason to crown San Andreas as the best game of htis generation- if such a judgement can be made about an era which has seen more variety in games and gamers than ever before. Nevertheless, I'd still say that GTA:SA is remarkable in terms of vision, of scale, and- to be quite frank- sheer fun. I simply haven't enjoyed any games for *this* generation quite as much as San Andreas. I think that's a good enough stanard for me.

For me it's has to be Morrowind:GOTYE for the sheer scope and free form nature off the game, Theif deadly shadows and the splintercell games were good. PGR2,FFX,Silent hill, virtual tennis(dreamcast) and Super Monkey Ball all deserve a mention.I liked vice city more than san andreas.

Gameplay is paramount but if you had two games equally as fun to play and one looked beautiful with great graphics and big life-like characters and the other had stick men on a black and white screen i know which one you'd rather play.
A good example is the difference between GTA2 and GTA3. The main real difference was graphics nothing more.

A good example is the difference between GTA2 and GTA3. The main real difference was graphics nothing more. Yeah, GTA 3 looked worse. Seriously though that example sucks, take Wii play's table tennis game for example, it is basicly pong, exactly the same gameplay, but better graphics. Yet pong is the game I would play if I felt like playing that sort of game, not Wii Play's version.

Yeah, GTA 3 looked worse. What an utter load of trash!!! GTA3 looks worse than 2?!? If you persist in that line of thought you're just gonna make yourself look stupid. GTA was an average series before GTA3. Now it is a mega selling powerhouse that outsells most of your favourite games series. Thats all down to graphics. The 'graphics don't matter' argument is a new phenomenon that coincides with the revelation that the Wii has inferior graphics. Anyone who tries to win in that argument is on slippery ground from the start for the simple reason that every brand has games with good gameplay and contrary to what Nintendo WANGRAs might say they do not have the monopoly on fun games. Now if you accept that this point is reasonable if three brands can do the same thing but one does it significantly poorer visually, 'graphics will matter' sooner or later.

You seem to lack sarcasm detectors Saracen if you searched the forums you would see that I love GTA3 and much prefered it to vice city, which lets face it is a better example anyway, as VC looked better than 3, and has the same gameplay, but I would rather play 3.

the most enjoyment I gleaned from the series was stealing a car in VC just as its radio started playing The Cult's She Sells Sanctuary, It definitely has the best soundtrack of the series.

Yes best soundtrack, but strangly I find myself playing GTA3 rather than VC.

For a while there i thought you really thought GTA2 was better visually than 3. Anyway i thought GTA3 was a better example than VC simply because it was the biggest improvement on its predecessor. VC wasn't even much of an improvement on 3. I agree that VC has the best music and 3 the worst with its Scarface soundtrack. I reckon GTA3 is the best in the series so far but strangly my favourite is VC. One reason is because i really enjoyed riding the PCJ as fast as i could before getting knocked off by a car or crashing. For speed it was more exciting than most racing games. BTW i have completed GTA3 and VC 100%.
