But I have, and don't remember there being crucial differences.

You just shot yourself in the foot there matey. my point is simply this: if the only thing better about the GC version is the quality of the graphics then i would say the ps2 version is better (due to its considerable extra content). but if there are other factors contributing to the superiority of the GC version for example this claim that you get mobbed by a lot more enemies (that sounds like fun) then i would say the GC version may well be better. Although the extra Ada mission is definitely worth checking out for true RE4 fans cos its like the whole game (although somewhat shorter) played with Ada going through an alternative route. it has whole new areas unaccessible to Leon (i thought the battleship stage was really good). In the end if its a choice between content over appearance (which by the way i think the ps2 version looks fine) i will take the extra content everytime.

i'm not making any claims about either version being better than the other.
all i want is for someone to provide me with the particular aspects of the GC versions superiority (not graphics cos i've already accepted that).
i've asked for this many times but havent satisfactorily got a response. it's not a challenge or anything, think of it as a genuine enquiry.

It's a game in which the primary aim is to shoot a lot of Hispanic zombies in the face, let's not turn it into the basis for another console war discussion. I'd suspect that there's little to choose between either iteration, like most multi-format games since the dawn of time.
(All those tic WANGRAs used to piss us off at school by criticising our fondness for tig. I never much cared for the stool version of musical chairs though, it's fair to say that stools just don't have the processing power (/high back panel) for such a demanding release.)

i'm not making any claims about either version being better than the other. all i want is for someone to provide me with the particular aspects of the GC versions superiority (not graphics cos i've already accepted that). i've asked for this many times but havent satisfactorily got a response. it's not a challenge or anything, think of it as a genuine enquiry. Having now bought and played the PS2 version to play the extra ada missions, I feel I can comment on this subject with little to no bias. Graphics Firstly, as I had stated before, and is indisputable, the PS2 version is inferior graphically to the cube version. But that is not to say it looks crap, I am surprised at how well capcom managed to port it, especially considering that the series creator left because of this port. Most of the problems graphically, are rather familiar to ps2 owner, and they are reduced resolution over all, smaller blurrier textures and jagged edges, but as it is rare for a PS2 game to not feature any of these, it still looks great. Sound Now this is one area I thought would be better on the PS2, due to it having more space on its full dvd's and its optical output, but having played them one after the other on the same surround system, I have changed my mind, the pro logic 2 support of the Cube seems to be better than that of the PS2 version, I don't know if that is because the cube has a better sound chip or not, but it seems to me that the cubes sounds are just better. Of course sound is a very subjective subject, but I believe I have been fair in my assessment. Game play Controls: This is pretty even to be honest, personally I prefer the gamecubes controls over the PS2's, but that is because I find it uncomfortable to play a PS2 game for a long period, due to the position of the analog sticks, I can say that capcom have performed a minor miracle with the analog sticks on the PS2 normally they are imprecise, and although you can't change the large dead zones of the PS2 pad, the fact that aiming was almost as easy as in the cube version saved me from dying a good few times. Content: The PS2 version obviously wins this one, the separate ways missions, though not really all that long (about 3-4 hours in total, but I have played RE4 to death and am very good at it), are of very good quality and are certainly worth something, there are a few extra documents scattered around that explain the story a little better, and although not must haves, are interesting enough. One thing I liked and never even knew about until I unlocked it are the alternative outfits for Leon and Ashley, Leon gets a gangster outfit, and Ashley gets a frikkin' knights outfit that cripples leon when he catches her. I did like the laser you get in the PS2 version, but as it is barely any more useful than a flash grenade, it quickly got sold. Difficulty: Well, now I suppose it comes down to personal preference here, but the cube version is harder, and for me that makes it better. The main failing for the PS2 version for me is the fact that although there are roughly the same amount of enemy's, they are spread out more, and do not mob you in quite the same way as in the cube version. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Ok now that should be clear enough, I am going to give an example, shortly after the siege in the house with Louis there is a choice between two routes, in one route you face off against 2 El Gigantes in the other a seeming endless stream of granados, then get into an arena with 2 chainsaw wielding female granados, after this you are ambushed by another large group of granados, it seems that in the PS2 version the tactics all the granados seems to be to hang back and only let 1 chainsaw and about 4-5 others chase you, whereas on the cube version they both come at you, and are often surrounded by almost all of the granados, in the section after during the ambush on the PS2 they also seem to hang back and come at you 2-3 at a time, whilst the others stay out of view far more often, on the cube though they will try to flank you and come at you in larger groups. END OF SPOILER Now what I have described are both on Professional, and are just what I have noticed, perhaps they changed the AI routines, or perhaps it is just luck that in the PS2 version they don't come at you in larger groups, what ever the reason the cube version is harder in both the main game and mercs (I don't know how much of that is attributed to my skill though, I blew through mercs on the PS2 and unlocked the hand cannon in one go). My end of game deaths on the PS2 was 3 and on the cube was 5 both set on pro, though 2 of the 3 deaths on the ps2 were during cut scenes whilst only 1 on the cube was a result of me turning off during the scenes. Overall Now it comes to the crunch, do I recommend the graphically superior Gamecube version, or do I recommend the added content of the PS2 one, well I just can't call it. That may sound like a cop out by me, but seriously I think it is too close to call, the only way that either of them would win is if capcom released a special edition on the Gamecube with the added features of the PS2 version, that would obviously be the ultimate edition and the one to get, but although I read somewhere that an "Ultimate Edition" was coming out on the cube, so far nothing has been released. So I guess my final verdict is that the PS2 version is about as good as the cube one, and if you don't have a cube or the means to buy one then simply get it on the PS2. But if you have a cube but don't have a PS2, don't bother saving, the game on the cube is more than good enough, and the added extras don't justify the min £60 you would have to spend on a preowned PS2. If you have both systems, well the choice is yours, it depends on how much of a graphics junkie you are, really, or how much you want a few extra bits and bobs and missions.

thank you!
that's what i've been saying all along. play both and see what you think. in the end it's a case of preference but the PS2 version is not a low quality, inferior port (as it is often portrayed).

I will admit, that I was of the opinion that the PS2 version would be crap when I first heard of the port, but now I have played and completed both as I have said, it is hard to call between them, obviously the PS2's sound and graphics are worse, but the extra content means it is just about equal to the cube one.

Metroid Prime, Disgaea, Super Monkey Ball, Skies Of Arcadia: Legends, Pro Evo series and GTA: SA, in no particular order.
Also, I'm on my third PS2. Utterly ridiculous...

Still on my first PS2. I say still, but it's never even had a single disc read error (or any error for that matter). It's not even very new...approx. 2 years old now.

Idea!
Donkey Konga's bongos, Guitar Hero's guitar, DDR's legions of fans unafraid to make idiots of themselves by dancing badly. We could form the perfect band.

more like Voo 'Guitar Wannabe' doo at the minute I managed to play most of them in one attempt Hmm, what difficulty setting would that be on then? QOTSA: 'No one knows' verges on the impossible at almost every setting - the required keys don't seem humanly possible. But If you're so good you'll be looking forward to the unlockable 'God' mode.

by most I meant most I've attempted being the first dozen, I'm breaking in to it gently playing through on medium first. I'm not that good at it at the moment hence the 'guitar wannabe' on a plus point I re/discovered some tracks I like so limewire may get used for a while again.

I'm refusing to play the sum 41 song, the incubus one is actually half decent. on the plus side it does contain the Queens of the Stone Age, Megadeth, White Zombie, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimi Hendrix, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Audioslave and Judas Priest.

I've got a nice acoustic version of Pardon Me, actually. Incubus are just about tolerable, I guess.
I think I just don't have the right cultural capital to enjoy the music in Guitar Hero. 12-string country music version please.
