Welcome to D.J's A-Z of Film. Here i will delve into my massive video/DVD collection and will review and rate every single one of them. I hope this thread will be used as a refrence guide and that you shall enjoy my regular updates. I will now start with numbered film titles before moving onto A.... 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)--------------------------- Starring: Paul Walker, Tyrese, Eva Mendes The sequel to 'The Fast and the Furious' lacks Vin Diesel but is in itself, a fun street racing flick with enough action and stunts to keep the viewer entertained for it's 90 minute duration. Best Bit: Freeway race where one car gets creamed by a lorry. D.J's Rating: 8/10 8 Mile (2003)---------------- Starring: Eminem, Brittany Murphy... A part-biopic of rapper Eminem follows him as he tries to win a rap contest which will allow him to go onto bigger and better things. Although it is rather bleak and slow going at times, the rap battles themselves make up for it. Best Bit: The final rap battle D.J's Rating: 7/10 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)------------------------------ Starring: Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.. Teen comedy romance at it's best, A shy teenage girl wants to date someone but her over-protective father won't allow it until her sister also finds a date. Unfortunately her sister is the most mean spirited and bitchy chick the world has ever seen. Best Bit: Class Poetry reading D.J's Rating: 7/10 13 Going On 30 (2004)---------------------------- Starring: Jennifer Garner In this modern day retelling of Big, A 13 year old girl wakes up one morning to find she is infact 30. This as you can imagine, causes all sorts of chaos but is actually a joy to watch because of the comedy involved. Funniest bit: 30 Year old Jenna chatting up a 12 year old boy. D.J's Rating: 9/10 A Bugs Life (1998)------------------------- Starring the Voices of: Dave Foley, Kevin Spacey... Pixars first film after Toy Story is also their weakest when compared to what was to follow. Worker Ant Flik has gone and wrecked the colony offering to the evil grasshoppers and his only hope is to go to the city to find bigger bugs that will help him. Best Bit: RAIN!!! D.J's Rating: 6/10 ------------------------------ That was the first five in my collection, hope you all will look forward to my regular updates of this topic as i review and rate each film one by one.... bye for now oh and just so everyone knows, there may be some big films that are'nt listed here, the reason for this is that it would be unfair of me to review films that i have'nt seen/do not own.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) ------------------------------------------- starring: Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law..
A futuristic retelling of the story of Pinocchio, originally a Stanley Kubrick project. The film was finally created when Steven Spielberg took over the reins. He has produced a sleek, surreal and slightly un-nerving type of movie which is nonetheless thought provoking and worth seeing at least once.
Best Bit: Visiting Dr Know
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994) ------------------------------------------------ Starring: Jim Carrey, Courtney Cox Arquette..
A comedy classic, the sheer stupidity involved is hilarious and Carrey is in fantastic 'mugging' form as he strives to track down a missing dolphin called Snowflake.
Best Bit: "do NOT go in there!!!! WHAOW!!!!!!!"
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995) ------------------------------------------------- Below par sequel which fails to live up to it's predecessor, this is not to say it does'nt have it's moments though. Carrey sets off this time around in search of a sacred African bat but has to cope with his own irrational fear of them.
Best Bit: The rhino gives birth
D.J's Rating: 5/10
Addams Family Values (1993) ------------------------------------------- Starring: Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Christina Ricci....
Comedy sequel in which an evil babysitter moves in and marries Uncle Fester, a quality production from director Barry Sonnenfeld who makes sure that the then child star Christina Ricci gets all the best lines (these days she is one of the hottest women in film).
Best Bit: The 'end of summer' play at camp chippewah
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Air Force One (1997) -------------------------------- Starring: Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman..
When Air Force One gets hijacked by ruthless terrorists, it is up to The President himself to try and bring them down before they kill everyone on board and get an evil general released from prison in a former soviet republic.
Best Bit: the aborted airport landing which nearly crashes the plane
D.J's Rating: 9/10

Alien Vs Predator (2004) ------------------------------------- Starring: Alien, Predator, People.
This monster mash from Paul WS Anderson does exactly what it says on the tin. It's loud, it's fast, and it contains two alien species beating the living crap out of each other. Not the greatest movie ever made but not a bad effort for an action-packed popcorn flick.
Best Bit: The first Alien v Predator smackdown.
D.J's Rating: 8/10
American Pie (1999) ---------------------------------- Starring: Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Eugene Levy, Shannon Elizabeth.....
Perhaps the greatest teen comedy of all time involves four high school students who form a pact to try and get 'laid' before the prom. The mixture of gross out humour and smut make for a film which can still raise laughs during repeated viewings.
Best Bit: Paul Finch in the womens toilets.
D.J's Rating: 10/10
American Pie 2 (2001) ------------------------------------ Starring: Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson hannigan.....
Comedy sequel in which the American Pie crew go and spend the summer in a big house by the lake. Unfortunately apart from a few laugh out loud moments it is spoiled by there being too many unnessesary characters such as Sherminator, Oz, Vicky and Jessica but to name a few.
Best Bit: SUPERGLUE!!!!!!
D.J's rating: 7/10
American Pie: The Wedding (2003) ------------------------------------------------ Starring: Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott....
It's time for Jim and Michelle to get hitched but things don't go to plan when Stifler shows up uninvited. Better than Pie 2, this film gets rid of the dead wood characters but keeps the best to ensure some top comedy moments...
Best Bit: The Batchelor Party
D.J's rating: 9/10
Anchorman: The legend of Ron Burgandy (2004) ----------------------------------------- Starring: Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate...
Newsreader Ron Burgandy is the greatest anchor on 70's TV, that is until a woman co-host is introduced and he ends up dating and getting dumped by her. A funny comedy from the same Ben Stiller/Vince Vaughn/Will Ferrell stable as Dodgeball.
Best Bit: battle of the news teams.
D.J's Rating: 8/10

Armageddon (1998) -------------------------------- Starring: Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler
Michael Bay's weakest film starts off brilliantly with New York getting pounded by meteorites. Unfortunately when the two shuttle crews of no-hopers land on the asteroid to blow up the giant rock threatening earth, the plot just goes on for too long and it just gets more and more stupid.
Best Bit: New York getting a pounding
D.J's Rating: 5/10
Around the world in 80 Days (2004) ------------------------------------------------ Starring: Jackie Chan, Steve Coogan..
Not a bad film but not great either, the film does pretty much what the title says but does'nt thrill as much as it should as Steve Coogans 'Fogg' teams up with Jackie Chan who is on a mission of his own.
Best Bit: Chan fighting the chinese bad guys.
D.J's Rating: 6/10
Austin Powers: Goldmember (2002) ------------------------------------------------ Starring: Mike Myers, Beyonce Knowles, Michael Caine.
The best of the Austin Powers movies due to the non-stop barrage of silly jokes involved. Don't pay too much attention to the plot as there is'nt much of one but to make up for that there are loads of crude gags that are laugh out loud funny.
Best Bit: Austin fights Mini-Me
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) -------------------------------------------------- Starring: Mike Myers, Liz Hurley, Mimi Rogers...
The first Austin Powers movie but not the best, it does have it's moments though as Austin embarks on his quest to thwart Dr Evil's evil plan. muahahahahaha.
Best Bit: Mustafa's firey'ish end
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Austin Powers: The Spy who shagged me (1999) -------------------------------------------------- Starring: Mike Myers, Heather Graham.
The second of the trilogy introduced Mini-Me and several other top characters, better than the first but not as good as the third.
Best Bit: 'look in the bottom'
D.J's Rating: 8/10

Bad Boys (1995)---------------------------- Starring: Martin Lawrence, Will Smith, Tea Leoni. The first major Michael Bay directed film is a big, loud, explosive action film that was very successful at the time. now however it pales a little in comparison to the superior sequel and many other action movies which have done better since. Best Bit: Hanger Shootout D.J's Rating: 7/10 Bad Boys II (2003)----------------------------- Starring: Martin Lawrence, Will Smith... An awesome sequel despite it coming along many years after the first. M.Bay really does'nt p*ss about with this one delivering fantastic car chases, awesome shootouts and laugh out loud comedy moments. The running time is a little too long but that is my only complaint about a truly great action movie. Best Bit: Haitian gang shootout on the street followed immediately by the car transporter chase. D.J's Rating: 9/10 Batman (1990)--------------------------- Starring: Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholsen Dark, Drab and moody, the original Batman movie is widely considered to be a classic even today. So much so that Tim Burton's vision that was created here has laid the foundations for the forthcoming Batman Begins which is due in the summer. Best Bit: Enter the joker D.J's Rating: 8/10 Batman and Robin (1997)---------------------------------------- Starring: George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chris O' Donnell... ...and here we have how NOT to make a Batman movie. This cinematic turkey waddled onto the big screen and was immediately panned by critics who compared it with a bout of dysentry (only less fun). Total Film's one word quote for it will go down in history as one of the funniest ever: Batsh*te . Worst Bit: Dodgy Hockey ice rink fight which was a bad omen for the rest of the movie. D.J's rating: 1/10 Batman Forever (1995)------------------------------------- Starring: Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey Joel Schumachers first Batman film was a breath of fresh air at the time and nothing like the turgid sequel which followed two years later. This was largely thanks to Jim Carrey who stole the show as the evil and demented Riddler. Best Bit: "Riddle me this, riddle me that, who's afraid of the big black bat?" D.J's Rating: 7/10

Batteries Not Included (1987) ------------------------------------------ Starring: Matthew Robbins, Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy, Frank McRae..
Friendly mini-aliens make a home for themselves in a old couples New York cafe/boarding house which is due to be demolished by greedy developers. Not bad but a bit slow in places and not everyone's cup of tea.
Best Bit: Hundreds of mini-aliens descend from above to help rebuild the house.
D.J's Rating: 6/10
Battle Royale (2001) ------------------------------------ Starring:Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aki Maeda, Chiaki Kuriyama, Takeshi Kitano...
Ultra violent Japanese movie which involves a group of year 9 schoolkids being abducted by the government and placed on an island where they must kill each other one by one until just a lone survivor remains. A modern day classic from director Kinji Fukusaku.
Best Bit: Nobu's necklace explodes.
D.J's Rating: 10/10
Battle Royale II: Requiem (2003) --------------------------------------------- Starring: Tatsuya Fujiwara, Ai Maeda, Shûgo Oshinari...
Unfortunately this sequel does not live up to it's predecessor but is in itself a rather good movie. Here Shuya Nanahara who with a girl called Noriko survived the first massacre has teamed up with other survivors to form a group calling themselves the Wild Seven. Together they have declared war on the government who kidnapped them in the first place which brings about a horrific terrorist attack in Japan. To counter this, the adults have created a new type of BR which involves one objective for the new class of kidnapped kids: Kill Nanahara.
Best Bit: The adult army move in on Nanahara's island.
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie (1997) ----------------------------------------------------- Starring: Rowan Atkinson, Peter McNicol...
Not as good as the TV show, this not-as-funny-as-it-should-be comedy involves Mr Bean being sent to LA to unveil a priceless painting. Unfortunately he ends causing all kinds of chaos but because of the american location, the character of Bean looks decidedly out of place.
Best Bit: Swapping the Paintings
D.J's Rating: 5/10
Bedazzled (2000) ----------------------------- Starring: Brendan Fraser, Liz Hurley
A hopeless loser is desperate to win the girl of his dreams, he is in luck then as the devil shows up to help him achieve his goal. This film is actually quite funny and worth a look as Fraser ends up in loads of tricky yet funny situations.
Best Bit: Columbian Drug Baron
D.J's Rating: 8/10

Beethoven (1992) ------------------------------- Starring: Charles Grodin, a dog..
A comedy in which a giant St Bernard dog is adopted by a wealthy suburban family, was ok at the time but is'nt up to much these days.
Best Bit: Dragged Chair Ride
D.J's Rating: 5/10
Beethoven's 2nd (1994) ------------------------------------ Starring: Charles Grodin, lots of dogs...
Better than the first film, but is not overly special either as Beethoven ends up with a litter of puppies after the owner of the mother threatened to drown them.
Best Bit: Burger Eating Contest
D.J's Rating: 6/10
BeetleJuice (1988) ----------------------------- Starring: Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder..
This fun spooky comedy involves a couple who return home to find they are dead. Unfortunately for them though an obnoxious family move into their house soon afterwards. This causes them to enlist the help of a guy calling himself Beetelgeuse.
Best Bit: The model village
D.J's rating: 8/10
Being John Malkovich (1999) ---------------------------------------- Starring: John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, John Malkovich..
A quite bizarre film about a man who enters a tunnel in his new workplace to find he can inhabit the body of movie star John Malkovich. Worth watching though as you never know quite what will happen next.
Best Bit: "Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich"
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Bicentennial Man (1999) ------------------------------------- Starring: Robin Williams
This thoughtful tale of a robot who wants to be human takes place over his long lifetime of 200 years. During his story family members come and go, places change and so does life but this movie is not without a good dollop of charm and that makes it perfectly watchable.
Best Bit: Seeing the world change as time marches ever onwards.
D.J's Rating: 8/10

U.S Troops enter the Somalian capital 'Mogadishu' in 1993 to dispose of an evil warlord. Unfortunately for them the Somali's are waiting, the bring down the U.S choppers and beat the living crap out of the soldiers. This gritty realistic combat film shows just how horrific street fighting in a war zone can be. This is one of Ridley Scott's finest films.
Best Bit: Choppers flying along the calm coastline on their way to hell.

D.J's Rating: 8/10

Casper (1995) -------------------------- Starring: Bill Pullman, Christina Ricci.
This ghostly film is not too bad but gets a little over-sweet at times. Casper's uncles are a laugh but this film (though good at the time with impressive visual effects) is not really anything special nowadays.
Best Bit: Hoovering the ghosts
D.J's Rating: 6/10
Cats and Dogs (2001) ------------------------------------ Starring: Jeff Goldblum, Mr Tinkles...
This looked excellent in the trailers but the film itself was disappointinga and predictable, a shame really as it was such a promising prospect.
Best Bit: Send in the russian
D.J's rating: 5/10
Champions: The Mighty Ducks (1992) ------------------------------------------------ Starring: Emilio Estevez
This ice-hockey 'em up was quite funny when it first came out, to watch it nowadays however and it becomes clear that it was'nt special after all.
Best Bit: When it becomes clear just how crap the D5 players are.
D.J's Rating: 5/10
Charlies Angels (2000) ------------------------------------- Starring: Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu
It has a Destinys Child song as the soundtrack. That's good for a start, plus some good fight sequences were thrown in too so although it's not a classic, it can be fun when it wants to.
Best Bit: Smack my bitch up
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Charlies Angels: Full Throttle (2003) ----------------------------------------------- Starring: Cameron Diaz, Drew barrymore, Lucy Liu, Demi Moore.

Chicken Run (2000) ------------------------------- Starring: Chickens
The first feature length production from Aardman animations is not as good as their Wallace and Gromit stories. The story is a little too slow but that's not to say it is a bad film because it is'nt.
Best Bit: Digging the tunnel
D.J's Rating: 6/10
Cliffhanger (1993) ------------------------------ Starring: Sylvester Stallone
This action movie in the mountains is a non-stop rollercoaster ride. Stallone ends up kidnapped by a gang of thugs and forced to help them recover their stolen boxes of cash. When he escapes however, it is up to him to put a stop to it in any way he can.
Best Bit: Craig Fairbrass (Dan Sullivan from Eastenders): "I love football" he says before giving one of the good guys a kicking.

Best Bit: Nightclub shootout
D.J's rating: 8/10
Collateral Damage (2001) --------------------------------------- Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger
This movie sank at the box office because it was released just before September 11th. Not that it mattered much because it was'nt overly special anyway, just a bit of Arnie blowing s**t up really, not bad though.

D.J's rating: 7/10

Coyote Ugly (2000) ------------------------------- Starring: Piper Perabo, Adam Garcia, John Goodman
A songwriter goes to New York to try and become a success. Things are'nt that simple however and she is looking at a pretty bleak future until that is she finds work as a coyote in a late night bar. This film is worth seeing just for the good looking chicks dancing on the bar but a good story also helps matters.
Best Bit: Leann Rimes
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Cradle 2 The Grave (2003) ---------------------------------------- Starring: Jet Li, DMX
This Joel Silver produced movie mixes kung fu with America and it works rather well. Despite this though there are'nt really any major stand out moments though it is still worth a look.
Best Bit: Quad bike chase
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) ---------------------------------------------------- Starring: Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh,
From director Ang Lee, this film which is set long ago in China was revolutionary in it's way of storytelling and without it the likes of Hero and House of Flying daggers would never have been made. Well worth seeing especially for some of the fight scenes.
Best Bit: Swordfight towards the end
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Dante's Peak (1997) --------------------------------- Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Linda Hamilton,
A volcano is going to erupt, so what do we do? Wait for a whole hour until it finally blows its top. Add to this some dodgy FX work and unbelieveable plot scenarios and you've got a bit of a turkey on your hands. The actors involved should have been given much better material to work with.
Worst Bit: Surviving a pyroclastic cloud (how the hell?)
D.J's Rating: 4/10
Daredevil (2003) ---------------------------- Starring: Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell
What the hell was this all about? Half the characters did'nt even seem to have a plot to work with. Maybe it's because i'm not a daredevil WANGRA or summat but this was perhaps the worst film of 2003. A cinematic pile of dog turd.
Worst Bits: most of it
D.J's rating: 2/10

Dark Water (2003) -------------------------------- Starring: Hitomi Kuroki, Rio Kanno, Mirei Oguchi
An excellent Japanese chiller from Ringu Director Hideo Nakata, the story follows a mother and her six year old daughter when they move into a large block of flats. Creepiest Bit: entering the flooded flat
D.J's Rating: 9/10

Horror remake in which the dead walk the earth. A few survivors hide out in a shopping mall while they try to think of a way to escape the apocalyptic world outside. D.J's Rating: 7/10
Deep Impact (1998) --------------------------------- Starring: Elijah Wood, Tea Leoni, Robert Duvall, Morgan Freeman
A comet is on it's way to earth and no one (not even a team of astronauts sent up to blast it) can stop the rock from hitting us. It's countdown to doomsday in this thrilling and emotional film which is much less gung-ho than Armageddon and all the better for it as events on the ground play out more as if it was happening in real life. An underrated classic.
Best Bit: "It was a perfect happy day"
D.J's Rating: 10/10
Demolition Man (1993) ------------------------------------ Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock
Futuristic comedy/action movie in which Snipes is defrosted from the cryo prison to unleash hell in Los Angeles a la 2032. Because the people there are so pitifully weak and touchy-feely though they are unable to control the psycho and therefore bring back a frozen polic officer who has a reputation for blowing stuff up. Well worth a look due to the excellent action and funny bits.
Best Bit: Stallone gets toilet paper by swearing into a 'swear and you get a fine ticket' machine.
D.J's Rating: 9/10

Donnie Darko (2001) -------------------------------- Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, Frank the Rabbit
A weird and wonderful tale that has achieved cult status due to it sinking at the box office when 9/11 happened. There's no point in me trying to explain the plot, just see it for yourself and enjoy this twisted piece of fantasy.
Best Bit: Meeting Frank
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Dr Dolittle (1998) -------------------------------- Starring: Eddie Murphy

Dodgy comedy sequel which follows Lloyd and Harry as they attend high school. I think the biggest question to ask was why did they bother at all? It has some funny moments but could never match the original.
Best Bit: Pretend Crap on the walls
D.J's Rating: 5/10
EDtv (1999) ---------------------- Starring: Matthew McConaughy, Jenna Elfman, Woody Harrelson...

D.J's rating: 9/10
Eight Legged Freaks (2002) ---------------------------------------- Starring: David Arquette, Scarlet Johansson
Originally titled 'Arac Attack', the name was changed because at the time it sounded like Iraq Attack and we all know that some people are so stupid that they confuse them both. Anyways, the film involves a toxic spill that causes spiders to grow MASSIVE. An excellent creature feature that is both funny as well as scary with some top quality CG critters.
Best Bit: Here Kitty Kitty, come out of the walls please.... WHAM!!!!!
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Enemy of the State (1998) --------------------------------------- Starring Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight
A tense and fast moving thriller which sees Will on the run from super smart and determined government agents because he has inadvertently gained possession of a tape exposing a political murder. Hugely entertaining...

D.J's rating: 9/10
E.T (1982) ---------------------- Starring: a kid, an alien, Drew Barrymore
A childrens movie in which an alien is left behind on earth and ends up being cared for by a young boy. Quite good but not the classic it is widely considered to be.
Best Bit: Flying bicycles

NEW ADDITION... ----------------------- Dead or Alive (1999) ----------------------------------- Starring: Riki Takeuchi, Sho Aikawa, Renji Ishibashi
Ultra violent Yakuza flick from controversial director Miike Takashi. Here anything goes from a hooker getting down and dirty with a dog to blowing up Japan. Not as good as i was hoping but was ok even though some of the scenes were quite shocking to be honest.
Best Bit: Birthday party shootout
D.J's Rating: 7/10 --------------------------------------------------- Now to continue with the A-Z...
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) ---------------------------------------------------------- Starring: Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet
A highly original and thought provoking movie about a man who is so upset and breaking up with his girlfriend, he has his memory erased. This too has happened to Clementine who is the woman he loves and they end up meeting each other afterwards completely unaware of who each other are. There's a great song during the closing credits too.
Best Bit: In bed on the beach.
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Evolution (1999) ----------------------------- Starring: David Duchovny, Orlando Jones, Julianne Moore
A meteor crashes down on earth and brings with it little alien beings who start evolving at a colossal rate. This film was made purely for laughs as the hopeless characters try to stop the world from being taken over.

Final Destination 2 (2003) -------------------------------------- Starring: A.J Cook, Ali Larter, Michael Landes.
A girl has a premonition of a motorway pile up and it seems that the curse of the ill-fated Flight 180 is to strike again. As those who cheated death start to bite the dust, the survivors decide that only one person can help them and that is the girl who is now the only person left alive from the horrific plane crash. A quality sequel that is very enjoyable.
Best Bit: Kaboom!!!
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001) ----------------------------------------------------- Starring: CGI Characters lol
The first full length feature from legendary game creators Square Enix is a slightly overlong and drawn out affair filled with too much talk and not enough action. Looks lovely though but the forthcoming FF7: AC looks set to blast this into oblivion.
Best Bit: New York barrier fails
D.J's Rating: 6/10
Finding Nemo (2003) --------------------------------- Starring: Marlin, Nemo, Dory, Bruce the shark...
An astounding technical marvel which sets the standard for future CG movies. Here a clown fish gets taken off his home on the great barrier reef and it is up to his over-protective but terrified father to go and find him. One of Pixar's best.
Best Bit: "Fish are friends, not food"
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Flight of the Navigator (1986) ------------------------------------------- Starring: Joey Cramer, Paul Reubens, Sarah Jessica Parker.
I watched this film as a kid and enjoyed every minute of it, for an 80's film the effects are excellent and the story is cool (though maybe not quite so these days). Worth a look though if you wanna check out some older movies.
Best Bit: E.T gag (phoning home)
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Fulltime Killer (2003) ---------------------------------- Starring: Andy Lau, Takashi Sorimachi...
A Hong Kong assassin flick about two killers with different ideals and one thing in common, the love of the same woman. It seems they are'nt gonna get on too well then.
Best Bit: Andy Lau elbows in and does the assasination before the older guy gets a chance to.
D.J's Rating: 7/10

Galaxy Quest (1999) -------------------------------- Starring: Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman

Best Bit: Pig lizard gets turned inside out
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Gangs of New York (2002) ----------------------------------------- Starring: Leonardo Di Caprio, Daniel Day Lewis, Cameron Diaz
In 19th Century New York, Di Caprio returns to the city to avenge his father who was murdered infront of him as a kid by Bill the butcher. A classy movie from director Martin Scorsese.
Best Bit: Knife Throwing
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Garfield (2004) -------------------------- Starring: Bill Murray (Voice)
The fat feline is all CG'd in this movie which works rather well as his happy little world is turned upside down when a dog called Odie is introduced to the home.
Best Bit: Dancing to 'Hey Mama'
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Get over it (2001) ----------------------------- Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Ben Foster, Melissa Sagemiller

Ghostbusters II (1989) ---------------------------------- Starring: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroid, Harold Ramis
After going out of buisness and spending the next few years entertaining ungrateful yuppie larva. The Ghostbusters have to reform and go kick some ass when a painting with an attitude problem decides to stirr up some crazy s**t all across New York.
Best Bit: "He says the Titanic has just arrived!"
D.J's rating: 9/10
Gladiator (2000) --------------------------- Starring: Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix
Maximus is a great soldier who gets betrayed by the psychotic new emperor, therefore he ends up a slave before becoming a gladiator and getting his revenge on the snivelling little b*stard. Great battle scenes make this tale a modern classic.
Best Bit: First major battle in the colosseum
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Godzilla (1998) --------------------------- Starring: Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Hank Azaria
Here's a simple premise, big bad beastie goes and trashes New York. Why then is it so drawn out and filled with a mini-dino section lifted straight from Jurassic Park? It's an ok film with some excellent action set pieces but some parts of it just stink and that means it has to lose at least two points in my rating.
Best Bit: Central Park showdown
D.J's Rating: 6/10
Goldeneye (1995) ----------------------------- Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Famke Janssen
The first film to feature Brosnan as James Bond and of all his 007 adventures it is probably the best. A good action adventure movie.
Best Bit: Tank Chase
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) ----------------------------------------- Starring: Nicholas Cage, Christopher Eccleston, Angelina Jolie
Doctor Who *cough* i mean Christopher Eccleston is a bad dude here who wants to kill Nick Cage's bro, personally he should have been allowed to get on with it as the bro was a stupid moron who thought he could f**k with the doctor. Still, Nick feels he'd better do something so he decides to steal some cars. Great idea eh? All in all though it's quite a good movie and is prefectly watchable. Where's Billie Piper when you need her though?
Best Bit: Vinnie Jones beats the s**t out of some low level thugs.
D.J's Rating: 8/10

Gremlins (1984) --------------------------- Starring: Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates
All is not as it seems in a quiet little town at christmas because a lone mogwai has come to town. Thanks to his not-so intelligent owners the rules are broken as he gets wet and is fed after midnight so sure enough, the town is filled with ugly, mean spirited, gloppy little monsters who run amok and attack innocent people. Good fun and worth seeing this is.
Best Bit: Microwaved!!!
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) ------------------------------------------------ Starring: Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, John Glover, Christopher Lee.
They're back and trashing a state of the art office block in New York City. The superior effects and critters make this film better than the original. Crammed with unique gremlins (such as a stupid one, a sinatra one and a spider one) this really enhances the concept laid down by the first movie. A classic creature feature.
Best Bit: Taking over the TV stations and studios.
D.J's rating: 9/10
Groundhog Day (1993) ------------------------------------ Starring: Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, Chris Elliott.
A sarcastic weatherman goes to Punxsatawney to cover the Groundhog festivities but ends up trapped in a world where he lives the same day over and over until he becomes a better person. Very good and well worth checking out.
Best Bit: Ned Ryerson!!!
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Hana Bi (1998) -------------------------- Starring: 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano
A slow and downbeat tale about a cop who has to juggle dealing with yakuza thugs and caring for his dying wife, some good performances can be found within but the pace may be a little too slow for some.
Best Bit: Kitano whips out a thugs eye with a chopstick.
D.J's Rating: 5/10
Hard Boiled (1992) ------------------------------ Starring: Chow Yun Fat
John Woo's finest ever film this is. It actually holds the record for the largest body count ever found in a movie. The hospital shootout at the end is just breathtaking and the action is non stop and of a very, very high standard. If you do not watch this then your life is incomplete.
Best Bit: The 20 minute+ shootout at the end.
D.J's Rating: 10/10

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone (2001) ----------------------------------------------------- Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson
Schoolboy wizard goes after the philosophers stone in the first J.K Rowling adaptation, the young actors do a good job in a story which sets the scene for future films.
Best Bit: Troll in the toilets
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) ------------------------------------------------------ Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Dobby...
In the second of the 7 part film series, things get slightly darker as the evil Lord Voldemort in teenage form tries to kill Harry (has'nt he got better stuff to do?) Good fun though if slightly overlong.
Best Bit: SPIDERS!!!!!
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) --------------------------------------------------- Starring: Daniella Radcliffe, Ruby Grint, Edward Watson
The best film of the series so far, new director Alfonso Cuaron takes a more dramatic and stylish view of the Potter world and produces a fantastic piece of filmmaking. Gary Oldman also does a great job as Sirius Black and the darker tone really starts to set in here. Roll on Potter 4 methinks (due out late 2005).
Best Bit: Riding Buckbeak across the lake
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Hellboy (2004) --------------------------- Starring: Lots of weird dudes and a couple of normal folk.
Big red dude brought into this world by evil Nazi's. So what happens? he teams up with the good guys and beats the living s**t out of lots of gloopy slobbery beastie thingys. Worth a look.
Best Bit: "How big could it be?"
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Hero (2002) ------------------------- Starring: Jet Li
A stylish and big scale production from Chinese director Zhang Yimou. Unfortunately the gloss fails to hide the fact that the story itself is a little on the linear side. Not bad but not the great benchmark of film it should have been.
Best Bit: Arrows away!
D.J's Rating: 7/10

Hocus Pocus (1993) -------------------------------- Starring: Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy
When i was a kid i really enjoyed this halloween tale, now it just seems naff but it was rather good at the time, honest.
Best Bit: I put a spell on you
D.J's Rating: 6/10
Home Alone (1990) -------------------------------- Starring: Macauley Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern
Another film i loved watching as a kid, this comedy was the biggest box office smash of that year mainly due to the fact that Pesci and Stern have to endure so much pain.
Best Bit: Blowtorch on head
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) ------------------------------------------------------ Starring: Macauley Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern
Almost a perfect scene-for-scene remake of the first movie, nothing different actually happens apart from the new location and new ways of inflicting even more pain upon the witless criminal pairing. Still worth a look though if you fancy watching a film of this sort.
Best Bit: Electric taps!!!
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Honey i blew up the Kid (1993) ------------------------------------------ Starring: Rick Moranis
A scientist creates a machine that makes his toddler son grow huge, ok but nothing special and the special effects are a little iffy too
Best Bit: Playing the giant neon guitar
D.J's Rating: 5/10
Honey I Shrunk the Kids (1991) -------------------------------------------- Starring: Rick Moranis
The first film in the series follows what happens when the scientists kids end up shrunk and lost in the back garden. It's a bit dull though and not really worth seeing as the sequel is actually superior.
Best Bit: I can't remember, it just was'nt exciting enough.
D.J's Rating: 3/10

Hot Shots: Part Deux (1993) ----------------------------------------- Starring: Charlie Sheen
Silly and stupid this story is, unfortunately it does not live up it's even more stupid predecessor of which unfortunately i do not own. Dammit!
Best Bit: Bow and chicken
D.J's Rating: 5/10
House of Flying Daggers (2004) ------------------------------------------- Starring: Andy Lau, Zhang Ziyi, Takeshi Kanishiro
The follow up film to Hero sees director Zhang Yimou improve on his previous work in many ways. This film is very arty with some beautiful scenes and the fighting is truly stunning.
Best Bit: Bamboo Forest
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Hulk (2003) ----------------------- Starring: Eric Bana, Jennifer Connolly, Nick Nalte
A lot of people hated this Ang Lee directed adaptation of the Hulk comic books (including my brother). Most did'nt like the arty direction and use of comic pages in the storytelling plus the fact that there was'nt much action left some bored. Yes the action sequences were'nt the main attraction here but i actually quite liked this film despite the flaws it possessed as the story within was quite well written even if the end was a little messy.
Best Bit: Breaking out of the military base
D.J's Rating: 8/10
I Robot (2004) -------------------------- Starring: Will Smith
One of the best films of 2004. This film appeared as if from nowhere due to the intense media focus that surrounded it's main rival Spiderman 2. It did'nt matter however that these two were very different sorts of films and I Robot raised some very important questions about the future of robotics. As well as this though it was simply an awesome film with stunning effects and fantastic action set pieces. Watch it now if you have'nt already.
Best Bit: "awwww, hell no!!!"
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Independence Day (1996) --------------------------------------- Starring: Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman
I was 13 years old when i went to see this in the cinema and for me, this was the sort of experience that many people my age had enjoyed back in 1977 when they first saw Star Wars. I was completely blown away with the sheer scale of the destruction and storyline and for me it remains a classic even today.
Best Bit: Blowing up the white house

Indiana Jones and the last crusade (1989) --------------------------------------------------------- Starring: Harrison Ford, Sean Connery
The best of the Indy trilogy and strangely enough the only one i have a copy of. This time Dr Jones has to team with with his father to search for the holy grail. One of Spielbergs finest this is.
Best Bit: Hitler's autograph
D.J's Rating: 9/10
Infernal Affairs (2002) --------------------------------- Starring: Andy Lau, Tony Leung
Hong Kong thriller in which a triad mole works for the police and an undercover cop works for the triads. A cat and mouse game ensues as each player gets closer to finding each other out.
Best Bit: Rooftop meeting
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Infernal Affairs II (2004) -------------------------------------- Starring: Edison Chen, Shawn Yue
Thriller prequel in which the undercover moles are at the start of their assignments and are trying to get used to their new roles.
Best Bit: Assasinations of the crime bosses
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Jackass: The Movie (2002) ------------------------------------------- Starring: Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Weeman
No one can really be told quite what this is all about, you have to see it for yourself, bloody funny though with plenty of gross out moments.
Best Bit: Taking a dump in a plumbing shop toilet (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeew)
D.J's Rating: 8/10
*New Addition* ---------------------
Casshern (2004) ---------------------------- Starring: Yusuke Isea, Kumiko Aso
Part real actors part CGI, this film is a curious hybrid and is similar to Sky Captain and the world of Tomorrow, however it is not quite as good as the long running time of 140 minutes does spoil things a bit.
Best Bit: Robots at war
D.J's Rating: 7/10

Johnny English (2003) -------------------------------- Starring: Rowan Atkinson, Natalie Imbruglia
Lord Blacka....i mean Johnny English is a secret agent (yes, another one of these films) who has to stop a demented frenchman from becoming King of England. It's mostly stupid but worth a look.
Best Bit: poison pen
D.J's Rating: 7/10
Judge Dredd (1995) ------------------------------ Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Rob Schneider
Comic Book adaptation in which Stallone thunders about blasting bad guys and shouting 'i am the law'. Not special but is'nt a bad film by any means.
Best Bit: 'Rip his arms and legs off but save his head for last, i don't want him to miss anything'
D.J's rating: 6/10
Jumanji (1995) -------------------------- Starring: Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst
Alan Parrish is freed back into the world after being locked up in a board game for 27 years. Unfortunately everything else from the game is coming out too and only with the help of a mini-Kirsten Dunst and her on screen brother can they defeat the game and fix the mess that has engulfed their town.
Best Bit; Stampede!
D.J's Rating: 6/10
Jurassic Park (1993) -------------------------------- Starring: Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum
The film that revolutionised special effects with it's CGI dinos rampaging round a specially created theme park that has been buggered up by one moron on a computer (and this was before the internet was even popular!). But even though it is a classic, it is now starting to show it's age against more recent blockbusters.
Best Bit: 'Turn the Light off'
D.J's Rating: 8/10
Jurassic Park 3 (2001) ---------------------------------- Starring: Sam Neill, Tea Leoni, William H Macy
This could have been the best JP film of the lot had greedy penny pinching Universal Exectutives had allowed director Joe Johnston to recieve the extra funding needed for a great dino smackdown on the beach at the end. Unfortunately no cash came along so we ended up with a stupid-ass ending that was far too abrupt, the rest of the film beforehand however was great. damn those film chiefs!
Best Bit: The phone rings inside the Spinosaurus as it stands at the edge of the field after the family are reunited.
D.J's rating: 8/10 (would have got a 9 or 10 with a proper ending)
