I watch ITV much more than the BBC. That's strange, i never thought of you as a fan of Celebrity Stars in their Eyes and Abbamania 2 Or do you just watch Bad Lads Army (it was hilarious to see chavs getting a beasting) instead?

No, just coronation street and the crime dramas So that shows you how much good stuff there is on the BBC. And I was referring more to C4, as I watch on friday nights from 8-12.

I pay for my TV licence at 5 pounds a fortnight. Its reasonable enough I suppose, but sometimes you do wonder why you bother. For example, I happened to be in Saturday night and the TV offerings were that bad on the main 5 channels, I ended up playing Max Payne 2 on my PS2 all evening.

Yes, but no channel can please everyone all the time, I don't perticularly like Bargain Hunt or Car Booty but I am sure millions of old people do.

make them pay for the TV licence instead then!
I don't think its value for money. for £5 a week you get BBC 1&2 whereas for £10 a week you could get all of the SKY channels (excluding Pay-Per-View).

The TV License scheme sucks - Especially when you're a student - One for every bedroom with a locked door! Screw the BBC, just give in to advertising as a revenue stream. I watch almost nothing on the BBC anymore. Though i'm passionate about the future in High-Def broadcasting I don't think the BBC should be doing it as a means to continue charging an annual fee.

I see I am the only one who dosn't mind paying for it, and quite where £5 a week comes into it I don't know, last time I looked it was £10 a month for the tv licence, I pay £10 for my licence and £18 a month for sky, though I don't watch it too much so which is better value?

Last night, a sales rep from a well known digital cable provider offered me a sky package at 4 pounds a week. I was half tempted until it was explained it was just a basic sky package.
I have a freeview box which just about justified its 70 pounds asking price. I bought it 18 months ago, and two weeks after purchase it dropped down to forty quid. (Fave channel men and motors, Miami Vice, Magnum and Cage rage all on the same channel)

E4 ain't that bad either. There's a show on it called My Big fat Obnoxious Boss, its a sort of The Apprentice but with actors as the bosses. The contestants haven't a clue.

Auf Wiedersehen pet was far better in its ITV days.
Murphy's Law was great, but then I'm a fan of author Colin Bateman. I think his Dan Starkey character should also have a TV series of its own.

Hello!
Licence fees: good. In theory, at least. Public service broadcasting (BBC) has much more scope for intelligence, experimentation, and cultural development than commercial broadcasting (ITV, C4, C5, every satellite channel ever). Unfortunately the BBC don't do anything like fulfilling their remit, and Channel 4 seem to be much more creative despite being an advertising-led channel. (And despite, for that matter, all of C4's dumbed down, unimaginative programmes for the very stupid.)
Licences fees good, BBC bad. Ultimately, the BBC should be closed down until it is capable of fulflling its remit. (As a general guage, once the BBC evening news is better than the Channel 4 evening news then I'll accept that they're on the right track.)

You'll find out soon. ..and yes Harold, i agree, Channel 4 have dumbed down a hell of a lot of late. But then, the decline began when they axed Brookside and replaced it with lifestyle shows (10 years younger, how clean is your house, some other garbage)...
