Go to Superdrug and they will be happy to sell you a DVD recorder (multi format) for £129.99, which is very close to the £120 that experts seem to think will ring the death bell of VHS recorders.

Bollocks. I wouldn't pay £120 for a DVD recorder. It doesn't matter how cheap the recorders get, unless DVD-RW become as cheap as VHS tapes then VHS will stay around.

DVD-RW's can be had for about £2, or even less if you buy in bulk.

Yes but you can re-record onto a DVD RW about 1000 times, VHS looses quality with each recording and looses some while just playing.
Most good VHS tapes I see are about £1 each anyway, so I would pay double that for something that won't loose quality, can record more in the first place, and can be watched perfectly over and over.

Yeah, but VHS are much more durable. If you have...um....sticky stuff on your hands when changing tapes, it wouldn't do as much damage as changing dvds

I agree. I've been buying old films off Ebay on VHS, some of the tapes were made near 20 years ago. Not one is really bad quality viewing. I have DVD's less than a year old that don't play at all.

Well, the first evil dead film was quite creepy I reckon. They did a good job with that,
The second one was supposed to be funny, and crappy. But mostly funny, and Bruce Campbell kicks ass in it so it's good.
The 3rd one was poo.

sh*t, i went to the shop today to get Hero on DVD (because i need to change the language to mandarin with subtitles instead of the english sub) and Sky Captain on VHS, the bastards though only stocked both on DVD. This is unfair as it should be freedom of choice instead of being railroaded into buying DVD's all the time.
