I sometimes feel like i'm the only person who buys DVD-A and SACD discs. Even when I go to hi-fi shops the guys working there quaff when I mention I have said discs.
Even though they sell the hardware, they are clearly scared of me. Indeed after much banter I managed to get the guy to utter those immortal words 'Do you work in hi-fi?', closely followed by 'You should work here'. I love going there to answer their questions and to look at the pretty silver things adorning the shelves.
So am I alone in my pursuit of dreamy highres multichannel sound and being angry when discs are not recorded at 96/24?
Edit: Hell, you guys don't even do DTS? Even that would be a step in the right direction.

No. Mostly because I don't have anything that'll play them. You can't just play an SACD on a regular CD player can you? And I wouldn't know where the hell to buy the things from, I'm, positive the HMV don't sell any albums on SACD.

You could play an SACD on a normal CD player, but only if it's a hybrid disc. Even then though you couldn't access hi-res DSD section so it's pointless really. Though I did buy SACD's before I got a player since I thought I might as well pay the extra couple of quid.
HMV do in fact sell SACD's but they are hidden behind badgers donning ponchos. They stock The Police: Best of, Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon and Mike Oldfield: Tubular Bells - all hybrid discs of course.
As you can see HMV stock a mere 3 titles, the only thing funnier is the price they charge for them (upwards of £20 - which is madness) You can pick them up for between £10-£15 online. About the same as a normal CD.

Surround sound mixes sound far more involving and are better in a 5.1 setup as you get the dedicated sub channel which goes down Loooooow.
Otherwise I have to butcher the sound quality and use Pro-Logic II to get simulated sound from the rears.
Plus the sound is so damned natural on SACD/DVD-A, instruments sound like they're there. The added bitrate also means there are loads of volume levels which couldn't be achieved before with regular CD's. I love it and there's at least one other person in a 200 mile radius that uses them too.
On another note: It really scares me when people say they can't hear a difference between even a 128kb/s mp3 and the original CD. The treble's so harsh on mp3 that extended listening burns your eardrums.

I only listen to MP3's at 320+ kbs am I good enough for you? I also have a nice 5.1 setup in the living room though without looking at it I can't tell you who the receiver is made by, though the sound quality is exelent, and unlike almost everyone else who buys surround sound speakers, I have set mine up properly (if it annoys me then it is sure to annoy you that people seem to be so inept when it comes to positioning speakers)
