Holy crap! Buy me one now. 60gig and decent video playback, It's only like 1.5cm thick and weighs less than 160g. I'm very very tempted, even at the £299 asking price.
The only doubt in my mind is whether I can face not going out for the next 3 weeks or so and whether it'll irritate me that its not got a simple drag-drop facility like my iRiver.

You have never used an iPod have you, the interface and loading things onto them is as idiot proff as you can get, hell it would have to be idiot proff because chavs now have them as fashion accessories.
Seriously though it is simple to load things onto them, but £300 is a high price to pay, I may try that freeipods thing sometime.

I just despise the fact you can't just plug it into any old PC/Mac and automatically get an external drive. I much prefer the drag/drop file tree of an iRiver which requires no software installation. It also means you can throw music around much more easily without iTunes threatening to clear your collection if you try adding someone else's.

Of course an encoder will emerge in the next few days and remedy that. Apple must be counting the days already

Precisely. Let me guess, this new one doesn't have a removeable battery? I think so...

If you are a wuss with those kind of things (like me) then you have to pay $60+ for apple to do it for you...bet it costs them pennies.

I fail to see the problem relating to batteries. I'd no doubt replace a hard disc player every 1.5 - 2.5 yrs anyway.

I have an iPod, but when I decide to get rid of it I probably won't get another one. The storage on the nano is tiny and the video playing, album art and colour screen just seem unnecessary to me on the larger ones.
