Well I have never heard of it happening before (at least no one has brought an iMac in with this problem before) but Sarah's iMac seems to have a problem with its neck stalk, it seems to have become very loose and continually drops down as far as it will go, which she tells me is very annoying whilst trying to write an essay on disease control.
As Apple quoted a huge amount to have it sent in to the nearest service center and have it fixed (it is out of warranty), I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix the damn thing, I have tried tightening all the things I can find in the neck, but it hasn't really helped (though it has reduced the rate of head butts so I have done something at least). Anyway I am going to google it a little bit more and see if I can come up with a solution.

When you aren't the person answering the questions in this board, we're screwed.
Surely google has something?

It's clearly suffering from a lack of abuse. My penis is the same when I don't beat it, it wilts.

LOL, not funny, though it looks like the problem lays in the strong spring in the neck, that would seem to be broken, and as they are very powerful springs they are non replacable Looks like I will have to pay Apple after all

We were discussing the necks at work last week and commenting on how we preferred this design of Mac to the latest 'top loader'. Big boss used to work with these mechanical parts and basically conceded that probably the most expensive component in the unit was the damned neck, thus its removal was probably the first thing on Apple's check list when they designed the new model. As to fixing it... how about tying a noose around its neck, throwing the rope over a beam then taking a marker pen to the screen to show Apple an expression of exactly how your Mac is feeling thanks to their manufacturing incompetence. Just an idea you know.

Or I coule tell Sarah to pay for her own damn iMac repairs but I love her too much to do that, I suppose things would be cheaper if I was an apple approved repair centre as I could order a neck, in any case I opened the neck up today, and found that the spring is indeed broken, though it still exerts quite some force so I have jury riged it up until such time as we send it into them

You're being unhelpful and nasty. I don't see how any humour can come from him having to pay out loads for something?

I'm sure Microsoft are laughing. "Hah! He takes the piss out of us all the time, but what's the alternative?"
Stupid Apple.

Hmm, prehaps, though I often joke with the Microsoft rep about microsoft, no doubt they have heard all the jokes before, and have prob came up with a few of them and as loath as I am to say it, Windows XP is actualy a pretty good OS. In any case Apple are moving into the teritory I know better they have announced they are moving away from the PowerPC chips thay use now, and are going to use 64bit x86 compatible cpu's so looks like I may be able to get Mac OS X running on my main PC

Your right, I bought a broken one that had a screwed screen and the motherboard taken out of it, so it was basicly a case of swithcing over the good neck to the broken one.
