This is a little "quest" or whatever you want to call it. If you were given £500 (c. $960), go and find the parts of a PC listed below with that budget, finding the best deal you can. Provide links to the products (this is an internet search only) and a price. Auction sites and 2nd hand products not allowed. Items you need. - Motherboard
- Processor
- RAM
- Hard Drive
- Graphics card
- DVD-RW
- Floppy Drive
- If you have money left over, choose from the following extras (not required) Monitor, sound card, mouse, keyboard, case, case mods, etc
It's only for fun (I'll attempt it soon)

For that amount of cash I could buy an Alienware PC off a mate. It probably fell off the back of a lorry. Hopefully it wasn't to damaged

I'd spend it on drugs, then spraypaint an old cardboard box grey to show my parents when they ask to see my new PC.

Damn, I should have got GD to pick out computer parts for me. I would have saved a bit (assuming delivery on those parts isn't enormous).

well I just ask this guy in the village aptly named "PC Dude". If I get the parts from him, I can put it together myself

Technicly if I were to use the wholesaler to get all that I could get it for far less. and the delivery on all that isn't much. I suppose I am good at making systems up to a budget, I do it every week if I was no good I would not get customers.

Quite a good system, Prob Sempron based (Athlon XP core) Though a Sempron (A64 based) or a lower speed A64 would be the best price performance ratio. I would recomend going to these 2 sites and working out the cheapest prices between them. www.planetprices.co.uk/www.loot.dealtime.co.uk/of the 2 Planet Prices is the best as it specilises in computers.

Yep. Basically all I have on it is Windows, C&C Red Alert 2 and Red faction (which won't install for some reason, even though I meet the S. Rs)

Wow, I bet you're gutted that you can't play Red Faction. Strange how my portable MP3 player holds 13 times more than your computer and isn't using most of it for an OS.

I know, plus all my mates have brand new pc's, and I'm stuck with my shitty thing. The worst thing about it is the start up, in the following steps.
1) Turn laptop on. Fan not working 2) turn laptop off. 3)Turn laptop on. Fan kicks in. Then I have to set the date and time, which I don't bother. 4)Press enter twice 5)Turn off 6)Turn back on. Windows starts running, laptop boots up. Success!
At least I know that I'll have no problem with theives! Built in security lock!
