Stupid question ahoy.
In assessing why my parents' computer runs so badly despite its fairly high spec, I noticed that the temperature it runs at was 56C. Is it possible that the entire thing is due to the computer running at such a high heat, or is 56C a reasonable temperature?

It depends on what the processor is, but 56C isn't really a bad temp for most processors, I had a 1.4ghz Athlon Thunderbird that ran at 67C under load just fine.
