Golden dragoon recommended AsAware6.0 and my school friend recommended spybot, which is best?

You should use them both. Most people I know have both of them installed and use them both. Neither is really better than the other. Sometimes they detect things that the other hasn't done.

Since yesterday (when I downloaded adaware6) I have already come accross and had to delete 225 things found by adaware 6. Is this much normal? Practically all of them were called data miners.

It's normal if you've never used it before.
You should find that the next time you run it it'll only find tracking cookies, which are nothing to worry about at all. They're normal. If it starts finding files and folders and registry entries though, then you've picked up some spyware somewhere along the line.
You don't need to run it everyday. Just once a week is more than enough, unless you suspect that a website has installed a program on your PC, such as Bonzi Buddy etc.
But yeah, the first time I ever ran AdAware it picked up something like 700+ files, cookies, folders, registry entries etc lol. That was back when I was a computer newb.

I was going to recomend spy bot search and destroy to you as well but you had to go unfortunatly.
As has been said it is best to use them both Plus spybot has a cool feature where you can have it block thing in your browser for you before they even get in your computer.

Does anyone know of downloading things (like Kazaa and Imesh) that DON'T put ad/spyware on your PC?

I'm pretty sure using Bit Torrent doesn't givew you any Spyware.

I have heard fairly bad things about it
I will tell you how Bit Torrent works on msn when I next talk to you on it. It is the best of the peer to peer networks (I have yet to find a file that is labeled wrong deliberatly)

I've been using blubster for a while now. It only has a small number of users and it can be difficult to get the file you want. Speeds are good though, and 'fake' files aren't a problem.
But yeah, bittorrent is the best
Edit: Blubster only does music though, forgot to mention that

bitorrent seems good, people seem to find mostly everythig they want as long as u have a good virus scanner u shouldn't have a problem with viruses hidden in files etc

I use Spybot. Works Great For Me. I use a combination of AdAware SE, Spybot, Spysweeper and a couple of others that don't scan but stop stuff getting in...but the biggest thing that has stopped spyware was changing to Firefox.

FireFox?!?! Ahh!! I downloaded it and tried it out for awhile but i would rather stay with IE. I thought that too, the first time I switched, the second time I realised I made the right choice. First time, I left it after less than a minute, as I thought it was slow (the stuff wasn't cached -that's why ) but firefox really isn't much different to IE in layout, plus it has the tabs system, so no loads of IE windows. Plus, after using ff, I'd never dare going back to IE, especially after hearing all the FACTS of how insecure it is...I'm sure people here could tell you; but take a look through google for it.
