It's The End of Nintendo as We Know It. Ninty are on the slide since the PS2 came about. The Revolution could be Nintendo's last effort at taking back over the throne as the best hardware/software manufacturer.

I doubt it, sure Nintendo will never be the king of the hill like it once was, but it has too many profitable franchises and makes far too much money to call it a day in the console arena.
And several people at Nintendo have said that the revolution will be bought by anyone and especialy those who allready have another console, thus they are aiming to have a rev in every home that has a PS3 or Xbox 360's as well as in everyones homes that don't have a console at all.
I think the revolution is too different to fail, and at the end of the day who cares if it fails? Nintendo will go on regardless.

Yeh, what GD said.
Nintendo still make more money from games that either Sony or Microsoft anyway, so it's going to be a looooooooooong time before they follow Sega down the third party route.

There's always room for a niche console. Though I concede that it's quite a dangerous burden relying on home grown franchises to entirely support a console. I think that the inevitable end for Nintendo as a first party is directly linked with the potential for a major failure in the handheld market - and in all honesty I doubt they'll rule the roost eternally.
I also wish to echo GD's point by declaring my undoubted purchase of the Revolution along with another next gen console.

Agree. Nintendo are the only company of the three to make a profit every year, and in style: they underperformed last financial year and still made £100 million. In any other industry, that would appropriate Ninty as the market leader.

In actualyity I wonder if Microsoft are infringing upon Nintendo's patents again, the Xbox 360 plays orriginal xbox games via emulation, and Nintendo now own worldwide patents for emulating an older console on a current machine.
Mind you if it turns out like the Xbox live incident Nintendo won't have the guts to go after them, and just let them get away with infringing patents they own.

All I can say is, I've no interest in the Revolution, and it'll just be the PS3 I'll be getting.

The Revolution could be Nintendo's last effort at taking back over the throne as the best hardware/software manufacturer. Where's your proof? As far as I know, Nintendo have never had the "throne" in Europe at least, since the MD was more popular than the SNES and the PS more popular than the N64. Plus at the moment the DS is more popular than the PSP in both Europe and Japan.

I don't know, all I know is that me and all my mates had super Nintendo's, only one person I knew had a megadrive (bar myself) and he ended up in a mental institution (true story, though most likely totally unrelated to the owning of a megadrive)

Most of the kids at my school had Megadrives/Master Systems and the only person I knew had a SNES was my uncle. I had an Amiga though. I'm special

seeing as I have already hijacked this thread I have some info about the Nintendo DS Vs. PSP sales in the uk
October 6-13: NDS: 24,492 PSP: 18,723 GBA SP: 8,799
October 14-21: DS: 23,035 GBA SP: 10,034 PSP: 8,000
October 22-29: NDS: 30,000 GBA SP: 15,500 PSP: 12,900
Seems the hype for the PSP has faded allready, novembers figures are almost the same as octobers.
Oct 30 - Nov 5: NDS: 35,000 GBA: 25,000 PSP: 16,000
Nov 6 - 13: DS: 40,000 GBA: 32,000 PSP: 12,000

I had a snes - which I got for working so hard for my 11+ exam. Somewhat beautifully I got Mario Kart on release day for passing it! Yet more happy memories (getting Mario Kart, not passing my 11+ ).

All the cool kids had Mega Drives at school. In fact, almost everybody did. I think there was only one Nintendo. I had a Master System (until September 1998, when I finally upgraded to a PlayStation).

That may be so, but acording to Sony's (and other analysts) projections they shouold be outselling the DS 3 to 1 by this time in the PSP's life, and as you can see they are being outsold on most moths by the GBA.

Nintendo aren't dying since their games are extremely popular. Twilight Princess is one example; the demand for this game (for example Gamespots wishlist) is huge. Platform Mario games always sell in huge number, as do other gamecube games. If they keep this up on the Revolution people will buy it as well as other consoles. Not like people only buy one console anyway.
