Shenmue was originally conceived to let you live out the life of Ryu Kazuki (i think) in 80's japan. However the game is far more linear than that, you have a goal to accomplish, avenging your fathers death, but you need to accumulate money and take part in staged events in order to accomplish that goal. All the other characters in the game appear to live out their own lifecycles alongside yours, which makes it interesting merely to be a bystander.
There is probably way more to the game than that, but it's been a long time since playing it and i can't remember

You have to get jobs as you progress through the day and time actually passes (all be it fast) as if it were a real day. btw, its Ryo Hazuki

I even put up with redoing huge chunks of it when my DC was going through it's resetting phase. When I grow up I wanna be'sa forkylift driva! There should be forklifts in every game by law!

LOL I see what you mean It should be in every game.

still unsure about the whole console thing but the pad thing is different the way i see it the ps2 is quite versatile for most game types that don't involve two sticks, the gc controller is quite comftable but no second stick fr fps's (i know metroid prime was good but it took some of the skill out of it) and the xbox controller was just plain designed for halo it is perfect for fps games (the large one only in my opinion as the small moved the blck and white button)

It's called the C stick. Metroid Prime just didn't play buy the FPS rules (esp. since it's technically an FP adventure rather than an FPS).

Exactly, it encourages the player to take a slower pace through the game and examine the surroundings.

I like the Xbox controller for the triggers, as they feel good in FPSs; although after a while your fingers ache like hell when playing racing games that use the triggers.

hmm... the gamecube is good for party games such as : supermonkey ball, mario kart, sonic games, mario games etc. X- box has HALO and PS2 is just all round good.
But out of the three I would go for the ...... PS2!
My decision was swayed by the fact that i have a ps2.

I find it fine for timesplitter 2. Ho hum it seems the debate will never reach a satisfactory conclusion. Obviously the most mature stance to take is just to be pleased with whatever you have, and rip on people who can't afford shoes instead. J/k

My favourite console is the PS2 as it has (in my opinion) the best games and it is most of the time easy to use and control.

ps2 of course.........the games mainly, plus you can play dvd's n' cds on it....which yer can't on gc, as i've heard, and the xbox has horrid controllers and is ugly, and has prolly one good game on it......most of it's games are from the ps2, anyways. ps2 all the way.

You've probably invoked something there, be ready for comments to disagree (not from me, as I only own a PS2). Don't worry, it won't be flame, just (probably detailed) reasons for why they disagree. Hmm, if Matt Beeching sees this topic, I think you may be able to see one of his long "intellectual" posts

The PS2 controller buttons feel really cheap and nasty (like the GBA's) and after a good half hour playing on it, my hands are always really sweaty, which never happens on the Xbox. The PS2 has probably the worst controller out off all the home consoles. And how can you say most of the Xbox's games are from PS2? MotoGP, PGR2, Halo, Dead or Alive Volleyball, Amped, KOTOR, I could name more if I wasn't tired. It has as good a line up of exclusive games as any other console IMO. Plus, it's DVD playback is superior to the PS2s, and the ability to rip CDs to the harddisk is somehting the PS2 can't do either. Admitedly, I get more play out of my GC and GBA, but the Xbox owns the PS2 big time. Xbox is what PS2 should've been.

I decided to set my PS2 up again for a bash at Virtua Tennis 2 over the weekend. After some smirking over the appalling graphics (further compounded by the terrible video output 'even in RGB' - proper lead and all) *breathes* we actually began to play.
Sure enough the sweating hand scenario arose after 15 minutes - my god it's distracting.
No 5.1, severe video problems, useless for driving games (where are my analogue triggers!) eugh - I don't like it.
Will I sell it again? Probably not with damned Gradius/GTA coming out.

the controllers for the xbox are just too big, how any normal person can hold them for a long time, i don't know. You do know that they stopped putting the massive controllers with the xbox's and brought out a smaller version called the controller-s quite a while ago. They are standard with all xboxes now and are easy to hold. And the size of the xbox - bigger size, more room for power
