Actually i don't know if consoles plural is quite correct. All i know is my master system II had alex kidd in the miracle world built in, the first time i swiched it on i was gobsmacked, and not just because it was the first console i ever switched on. In retrospect it was probably the best game i ever had for my master system
Does anyone else know of any other consoles with built in games and were they any good?

You can buy atari and namco joystick things with games built in but they are about £25 and they're not very good. 10 games in one... About 5 games

the whole 'built in games' idea is a good one and should be used more often

Theres no longer any real point building in games to consoles unless the console has a hard drive. Plus, the expected level of gameplay and graphics means it'd probably take just as long to make as a commercial game, and I'm sure that the console manufacturers/games companies would much rather make profit selling games seprartely than giving them "free" inside a console.
Though the practice of console-game deals is much akin to built in game, 'cept the games are on disc and, with the exception of the Xbox Sega GT/JSRF pack, cost more.

Well the Master System cost £10 more with a game built in and that was years ago.

built-in games lack the versatility consoles need to be bought- look at the PS2 for example, it plays not only games, but is reverse-compatible, plays DVDs and audio CDs as well. I wouldn't buy a console with less features, even at a fraction of the price. If anyone is rly looking for a console with one fixed game, go buy a happy meal from mcdonalds

The games with one button consisted of sonic running along (without your help) and when you got to and obstacle (always the same looking blocks) you pressed it. 30 seconds later - game completed!!! YAY! The ones with two buttons consisted of saving a goal and racing which were better than the others, but that's not saying much.

If I remember correctly they succeeded in hiding the gameplay inside the Master System's secret game too!
My little bro got the Monkey Ball LCD game from McDonalds - It sucks and has nothing to do with Monkey Ball, save for the monkey.
Built in games is the worst idea ever. Though I do have some amazing ideas for lobby games whilst you wait for Live games to start. Secret though...... I'm absolutely gobsmacked that they haven't already been introduced, I must have spent half my life in those boring Toca rooms.

Imagine getting an Xbox with Halo built in. Or something involving Kasumi. That'd be boss.

the master system 1 had a built in game but it was hidden and you had to do something to get it Here is how to get it. To access Snail Maze on a console that does not have Hang On/Safari Hunt on it press and hold up, 1, and 2 when the Sega screen appears. Please be advised that not all systems have the Snail Maze game. For consoles that have Hang On/Safari Hunt built in, simply press and hold up, 1, and 2 then turn on the system.

Don't they usually just flog games with a console anyway? You pay for the console adn the game comes with it for free? Ok it's not actually in the machine but its technically still a free game?
Maybe I just missed the whole point ;D

Usually they just wait till the console comes down in price before giving away a "free" game, or tagging £20 on to the price of the console. I think the last proper FREE game deal was the JSRF and Sega GT deal with Xbox.

That Snail Maze drove me potty, I seem to recall it had really irritating in game music. You could have a whole new thread on that alone. MOST IRRITATING GAME MUSIC.
I'd start with FLICKY on the MEGADRIVE. I play the game with the sound OFF.
